Understanding Hair Growth and the Role of Supplements
How Hair Growth Works
Hair growth is a dynamic process that occurs in a cycle with three main phases: anagen, catagen, and telogen.
The anagen phase is the active growth stage, where hair follicles produce new hair cells, and this phase can last anywhere from two to seven years, determining the length of your hair.
Following this, the catagen phase is a brief transitional period that lasts a few weeks, where hair growth slows down, and the hair follicle begins to shrink.
Finally, the telogen phase is the resting stage, which lasts about three months, after which the hair eventually sheds, and a new cycle begins.
Why Supplements Can Support Hair Health
In addition to a healthy balanced diet, supplements can help support hair growth by providing some nutrients required in the normal hair growth cycle.
For instance, supplements containing biotin, zinc, and vitamin D can help support healthy hair follicles, supporting healthy hair growth.
Biotin, a B-vitamin, is particularly known for its role in hair health, while zinc helps support skin health and maintains healthy hair follicles. Vitamin D, on the other hand, is involved in the body’s normal moderation of hair growth.
