Program Director of School Fun Run, Brendan Hopp has also revealed a new character in the education sector. ‘Thanks to Nature’s Way Kids Smart we have created a new character in Chase the Cheetah, see pics below. Chase is the hero of our new initiative – The Big Show’. Designed to further get our kids moving in the spirit of fun and high energy that kids love.
Last year alone, Australian kids ran 18 laps around the world through their participation in School Fun Runs and collectively raised $6million for schools. The funds were used to improve school life by purchasing previously unaffordable equipment, such as new technology and resources, developing community hubs in schools and supporting student wellbeing. Some schools donated money to charities such as Beyond Blue and Cancer Council, making a difference to so many people across Australia.
Since its inception in 1987, School Fun Run has assisted schools from all states and territories to raise tens of millions of dollars for their schools. Here are some notable fundraising achievements over recent years:
New South Wales: St. Patrick’s College, Strathfield, raised over $91,000; Avalon School – over $90,000 raised
Western Australia: Woodthorpe School raised over $72,000
Queensland: Ascot State School raised over $53,000
Victoria: Livingston Primary School raised over $46,000
South Australia: Flagstaff Hill R-7 School raised over $39,000
All funds raised were from a single fun run with the assistance of School Fun Run’s online fundraising and fundraising coaches to maximise the money raised.
St Patrick’s College, Strathfield, holds the national title for raising the most amount of funding through School Fun Run. Since 2014, St Patrick’s College has raised over $327,000 and in 2016 alone they raised $91,000 in a single event.
Mr John Locke from St. Patrick’s College, praised the “amazing students” at the school for their “incredible fundraising efforts, year on year”.
Mr Locke continued: “Our students simply love School Fun Run. They are proud to be students at St. Patrick’s and raise astonishing amounts of money, which helps the justice partners and charities supported by the College improve the lives of those less fortunate than ourselves.”
“School Fun Run is one of the highlights of our year and staff and students alike are looking forward to the 30 April when we will get to meet Chase the Cheetah!”
“Raising over $300,000 since 2014 has done untold wonders for so many in need. The students have enjoyed the rewards for their efforts. Often offering their prizes up to be raffled off to raise further funds. The boys place a lot of value on the fun run and along the way have created awesome memories that they will take with them forever!”
